Advantage 9000 filter the oil from the
locomotive was sent for analysis on a
regular basis. As a result of this
filtering technique the oil in the
locomotive did not need to be
changed until more than 800 hours of

KRESS Coal Hauler - CAT 3408 Engine Oil Filtration
The 3408 series CAT engines in the
Kress coal haulers were failing prematurely before
the expected 16,000hrs of engine operation.
Investigations of these failures indicated a potential
root cause to be contaminated engine oil (oil
containing high levels of iron and lead wear
materials).
